Hi, the hubs and I are going to be staying at the Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real for a week starting next Thursday. Very short notice, which is so unlike us! I don't find any threads about the dive op, Scuba Caribe, that was mentioned as operating out of the resort, for a few years. Can anyone tell me if they are still around? The hotel website mentions snorkeling (and aquarobics!) but not scuba.

Alternatively, is there something nearby that's recommended? We will not have a rental car and don't want one. We are both OW certified, but I have a back issue and need to gear up in the water.

The diving in Punta Cana isn't very good and to make matters worse if you have a back issue most of the hotel dive operators use small boats that require you to backroll in and then hand your gear up after the dive and kick hard with your fins to get back into the boat. There is no shore diving that I have ever seen and the snorkeling is pretty crappy (the beach is beautiful at Punta Cana but the water is pretty rough). The best diving (and better boats) are all located on the south shore near La Romana in the village of Bayahibe. There is a new highway but you are still looking at a 45 minute drive from Punta Cana.
