I will have a small window of opportunity this summer to get a couple of dives in Cuba. Unfortunately I will be based in Havana and don't have time to go to the south and Garden of the Queens. Has anyone done any diving in the Havana area? I know there are some dive shops in Havana but I have to be able to locate one who will rent equipment. Most of the websites are in Spanish.

Havana isn't too good. There is a lovely dive shop at marina Hemingway, it is a Marlin franchise, although franchise isn't anywhere close to the truth, are you sure you can't make it to Cayo Levisa? World class there. Couple of hours west of Havana.

Unfortunately I will only have one morning available to dive, so a four hr. round trip is out of the question. I was told there are some interesting wrecks to dive near Havana. Thanks for the info re: the dive shop.

There are interesting wrecks in the harbor. Where the ships go in and out. Right off of Morro Castle. I think, but do not know for sure, that they are shore dives, as small vessels are not allowed in Havana harbor unless under escort. Cuba has a lot of laws where boats are and are not allowed to go.
