«The names that were given to a piece of land, which reminds the flatfish Kalkan by its form,
can be listed for a long and hard. Although, we omit some of them. In different historical periods,
the island, that is situated in the north-west of the Black Sea, was called Snake Island, or
Achilles Island, Levke, Filoksy, Fedonisi, Sherpilor, Ilan-Ada, Isle of the Blest and others.

The distance and closeness of the island for a long period of time, gave favorable opportunities
for developing the underwater archeology nowadays. Historical eras and events which are
reflected in the objects could be observed while you are scuba diving in the waters.
Many ceramics, anchors of different periods and shipwrecks, beginning with the
ancient Greeks, cover the seabed around the island…»
