Any rational person would immediately understand that protecting the community as a whole also lowers their individual risk.
Unfortunately, rationalization is a more compelling force than rationality to an alarming proportion of our population.

Remember! We were told NOT to wear masks by our Covid Task force leaders. they are detrimental and can actually cause more problems than they solve.
Now they do a 180 and claim that they are essential. It is a ridiculous situation.

That is how science works. They state what they believe now, and when they later get evidence that they were wrong, they state their new beliefs and explain what led them to change.
In contrast, religion starts with the assumption that original beliefs are divinely inspired and thus eternally unchanging.
People who understand science have no trouble accepting changing positions; people who do not understand science cannot accept those changes.
Not sure you get how science & medicine work. Hypothesis, test, adjust based upon results, repeat. You act as if a virus that didn’t exist 9 months ago should be thoroughly understood from day 1. Let’s let the experts be the experts and work together to adjust as they learn more. Unless of course you want to go get your MD & PhD. Go ahead, we’ll wait.

LOL, there is no new science at play here. They even admitted that.
They were willing to lie to the public, in order to reduce demand for masks because it was determined more desirable for the medical staff to have access to PPE. There is no wonder that people are skeptical, after we are told one story- then the opposite. They were willing to lie and sacrifice individuals, for the perceived benefit of the collective. Public health and personal health are not always aligned.
Telling people not to use masks or face coverings was obviously ridiculous when it occurred. I'm surprised that the poor guidance is not recognized by more people.

This virus literally did not exist ~9 months ago. How can there be no new science at play? Of course there's new science going on here. Hour by hour ... facility by facility ... across the entire globe!
