Man dies after diving in Cork City - Mag Viral News
A man died this afternoon after a diving accident in Cork City. (Drake's Pool is actually about 10 miles downriver from Cork city.)

The alarm sounded around 4 p.m. when the man, who was part of a dive, ran into trouble diving in Drake’s Pool, a sheltered section of the Owenabue River, about 1 km upstream from Crosshaven.

River anchoring is a popular mooring place for yachts and small ships and most diving activities in the area include work on berths.

Water depths in the area range from 6m to 8m.

The victim was recovered unconscious by a diving colleague and CPR was administered.

Emergency services, including the local coast guard unit, the RNLI, HSE paramedics, two rapid response doctors, gardaí and the Waterford-based coast guard rescue helicopter, were assigned to the Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven in an operation coordinated by Valentia Marine Rescue Coordination Center.

While the affected diver was being raced ashore, the emergency services gathered at the pier where resuscitation efforts continued. It was decided to stop the helicopter and take the diver by ambulance to the Cork University Hospital. where he died later.

The man, originally from Poland, was in the mid-40s and lived in the south of Co Cork.

The only thing I can think of that would make a diver feel ill at 20-25 feet is toxic air.

Or getting hit in the head with a piece of chain.
