Look at one of the emails you have received. There is a link(s) to turn off email notifications. You can turn of the notification to the specific Thread, or all email notifications.
That's what I did and happily I no longer receive email notifications. All I get now is an "alert" on the top of the SB page.

Yes! Apparently the default settings caused me to "watch" each thread I touched, and it was the Watch setting that caused all the emails. I managed to get all that turned off. Now I'm lonely, no more emails from SB. Sigh.
