I was hoping some one could provide some adivice or guidance. My wife and I started SCUBA class last night, the problem was my wife experienced pain in her ears just kneeling in the shallow end while practicing drills. She was unable to equalize and could not continue. She has had tubes in here ears every year untill she was 12. She also has trouble equalizing on airplanes, and when she does equalize it is with a sudden painful pop. If anyone has dealt with similar situations and information would be appreciated. I have ordered pro-plugs and the Promask 2000 to see if those might help.

I addressed some of these problems in a post the other day, and there are a myriad of opinions in past posts.

If your wife has had multiple rounds of tympanostomy tubes, she apparently has chronically malfunctioning eustachian tubes, and has trouble equalizing day-to-day.

She may or may not be a suitable candidate for SCUBA. She should discuss this with her ENT doc and get his opinion before proceeding further. She may have to learn additional methods to clear her ears, or it may be a recurring problem.

It's not a cure-all, but the prescription cortisone nose sprays have helped several divers in my practice ( and a few pilots)
and are safe and effective when used as directed.

Ask your ENT doc, and hope for the best.

Chuck,
I am one of the inventors of the ProEar mask and believe that this mask can be beneficial for your daughter. I suggest you visit our website at reveiw some of the comments by divers who have had similar problems with equalizing and then contact them if you like (most have kindly given their email addresses).

You should always seek advise from a diving qualified ENT specialist if you can.

Good luck.
