Diving near the island of Sušac was fatal for Irena Čok, president of the Ljubljana Sea Research Society and member of the supervisory board of the Slovenian Diving Association.

Irena Čok from Plavij pri Škofija had an accident on Tuesday while diving near the islet of Sušac, where she was spending her vacation with her long-time partner, world-renowned underwater photographer Borut Furlan . As we learned, the teacher at the Piran Music School died on her 46th birthday. The circumstances of the tragedy are not yet known, but it is said to have happened during the decompression stop after the end of the dive.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce that our long-time president, Irena, has left us. Diving was her great love, which she spread among her colleagues and students. We will remember her as an inexhaustible source of energy, a dedicated instructor, an exceptional underwater photographer, a cave diver and above all a friend. Not only our society, the entire diving community has lost one of the most experienced divers in Slovenia. Dear Irena, rest in peace, we will miss you immensely," the Association for Sea Research and Underwater Sports Ljubljana wrote on the social network . Čokova has been its president since 2014.

National champion in underwater photography

She had more than 3,000 dives all over the world behind her. With her positive attitude towards the world and with her beautiful underwater photos that also adorn our club premises, she will remain in our lasting memory. On behalf of PLK, I express my sincere condolences to all those who touched my heart," wrote Boris Vuga from the Sports Diving and Fishing Association of the Divers of Luke Koper, Čokova was also their member for the past ten years.
They also said goodbye to her at the Slovenian Diving Association, where she was a member of the supervisory board.

Irena Čok completed her first diving course in 1993, became a recreational diving instructor in 2005, and completed technical diving courses in 2011.

She has been photographing since 1998, and soon began to achieve high-profile rankings in international competitions in underwater photography, she was a multiple national champion and also successful in world championships, both in the role of assistant, photographer and leader of the national team.
