FWIW: my wife and I are just finishing up a week at Beqa Lagoon Resort and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The diving has been amazing and the Cathedral shark dive is not to be missed.

We've not done a liveaboard so can't speak to that part of your question.

I have spent many a week on Liveaboards and have found them to be awesome value, particularly if you want to be in 'dive dive dive' mode.

Check out Liveaboard.com for the best and latest deals.

Check out Nakia Eco Resort and their dive operation Taveuni Ocean Sports. The resort is very small with all home grown organic food. Read the reviews on TripAdvisor. They are accurate. Have been there several times and the Rainbow Reef diving is not to be missed.
