Greetings,

I'm contemplating a June trip to the Outer Banks. I've never been there to dive and my last visit there above water was decades ago. I could use some basic advice.

Effect of Covid on dive operations, hotels, restaurants, beaches?

Good dive operations?

Recommended dives?

Wetsuit requirements for June?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks for any input.

There's only one dive shop that I know of that runs charters if you're up near Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills/Kitty Hawk. Roanoke Island Outfitters, an excellent shop/boat, really good people. If you're on the other end down near Hatteras I believe there is another operator but I have never vacationed or dived on that end.

As for the second part of your question, if diving on the upper end of OBX you'll likely need a 7 mm wetsuit for most offshore dives. There are some shore dives you could do in a 5 mm or less. Down towards Hatteras the water is warmer.

If you get the opportunity dive the U-85, it's a really cool dive.
