I have to say I am real happy with my first outing with my J1 and WP-N1 housing. Bought it in Dec but had to wait till yesterday to take it underwater, and I'm happy with the setup and results. Didn't take too many pictures and didn't play with any settings other than preset the ISO at 200. Just as a test. Now it's down to dive and practice as often as possible. Will get to macro later.
Pictures taken without external flash, used the internal only. All settings were at f/14, 1/20, ISO200 and minor color correction with Picture-Fix

Me and the J1 were at it again, this time at 30m with strobe attached. 1st I could not get the sync on the strobe in line with the camera, need to do more research into this I guess. But I did get a few pics I think were decent enough, comments welcome please.

Congrats. Just as a heads up, your learning process will continue to evolve for as long as you take pictures underwater. Rapidly at first and then as your experience grows, it will gradually become a matter of picking up new tips & tricks to refine your photos.

Just out of curiosity, what are you using for a strobe and how are you syncing it? Knowing that will help us in providing advice.

Using Sea&Sea YS-01 strobe with optic cable. I've tested it on land and found a slight delay, then changed the settings on the camera to try and compensate. On the camera it gives 3 slow sync options in the flash settings menu that i played with.

Try putting the camera into "Fill Flash" and making sure that your shutter speed is 1/60 second or slower. By using Fill Flash, it should force the camera to flash using TTL, and the J1's fastest shutter sync speed is 1/60 second, so you can not expect good results if your shutter is faster than that.

I don't know if that will help, but hopefully it will.

A few months on and a couple of dives more it’s starting to look better. I’m really enjoying this camera at the moment.

Nice, JFE!

I'm putting together a J1/WP-N1 system; your work gives me hope!

It is a great camera imo, only thing is the internal flash doesn't help you much, need an external strobe. Here are some more recent pictures. I now have a diopter added but havn't started using it.
