The 50 mm lens I've got is not the macro one, but it has a manual focus ring on it. It's the 1.8 FE 50mm Sony. I upgraded its firmware to version 03.
Hope that helps, I did notice a big improvement after firmware updates, but then again, this is a new system for me an I don't know how to use it yet. Working on it.
