Yea, literary license. How many times have we watched TV and movies and said "divers can't do that". Heck, I didn't even have to watch TV to be dead wrong over the lab reports I was seeing. That was probably more a case of wishful, or at least optomistic thinking.

In TV land, DNA analysis comes back from the lab in less than 5 minutes. In the rest of the world it takes months...

Some of that is old technology and some is backlog/limited capacity. That appears to be rapidly changing. Here is an example:
