I am vacationing at Hilton Head Island next week. I recall from when I was a kid that when the shrimp boats would come in close to shore, the shrimp would be crawling over our toes in the shallow water to get away. I also remember hoop-netting for crabs.

Is it possible to freedive the shallow beach waters and scoop up shrimp and crabs? I know the vis is probably very poor. I have checked F&G regs, know the limits and that I need a license, but is it even worth attempting?

Thanks!

George
