Waterguy and I are looking for a cheep winter getaway. Freeport is leading the contenders. A place called Pelican Bay at/near Lucaya is giving us a surprisingly good rate. I haven't been to Freeport in 4+years. At that time the Lucaya marina complex was growing rapidly, but I have never heard of this hotel. Anyone know anything? Especially if there is a good reason not to grab it?

We aren't fussy about accomodations in general, just going for the reef.

Thanks

Hi Watergal,
Yes, I have been to Pelican Bay. Very nice. I didn't stay there, I stayed at Port Lucya Yacht Club. But we passed it on the boats on the way to the reefs everyday. I decided to walk over and see it for myself. I would definatly stay there. The rooms were fairly large and clean. Great location and not as wild as the casino crowd across the street.
It's right next to UNEXSO which we used for our dive operator.
Their boats are big, and somewhat "cattle boats" so you may not want to use them. But they do have wonderful instructors, and DMs.
I persoanlly don't have a problem with them, and enjoyed the Dolphin and Shark feeding dives they offered.
There is a center court area that has tons of restaurants and shopping. Our favorite was a Greek place, that had the best Gyros and baklava. Was it called Zoro's? I'm not sure.
Anyway, hoped I helped.
:gorgeous:
PS I know Tavi goes there quite a lot.

Zorba's, I think. Great food in any case.

I can see why places are giving great rates. When we were there in November there wasn't very many people compared to previous trips.

I don't know anything about Pelican Bay, It looks okay from the outside.

I have spoke with divers who dive with UNEXO, they loved the Sharkdive and the Dolphin dive.

I like smaller Dive boats, We dive with Grand Bahama Scuba. I still see lots of Sharks when I want to, and It costs me a lot less. There were some divers using both UNEXO and GBS. Arrangements can be made to be picked up and returned to your hotel.

I feel like I'm ready for another trip there. But no vacations for me until I'm done with my next big job.
