I'll be going to New Orleans for the NEA convention in July. A working vacation but, well you know, there's always a little extra time. Any advice on dive spots in the area?

Thanks in advance,
Ted

The only diving that is "close" to the area is out of Venice, LA at the mouth of the Mississippi. They take divers out to a couple of the rigs and either just dive or spearfish. I have not taken this trip but apparently it is $150 for a three tank dive outing and topside fishing during your surface intervals. Lot's of red snapper and cobia. It's about 1:45 min drive from downtown N.O.

Other than that we usually have to venture to Pensacola or Destin to go diving which is about 3 1/2 hours from NO but the beaches are great.

New Orleans is known for many great things but diving isn't one of them.
