They've removed lift from the valve area to allow better access .....

So the company tried to fix a problem that never existed. Never have I, nor heard anyone say, that their valves were obstructed by their Halcyon 40/60 wing.



If you have no conscience, take the back plate and wing, sell it on ebay to some rube, and get gear that works, or just toss it in the trash and write it off to an expensive learning experience.
 
How tight is your drysuit? Can you put some air up around your neck and shoulders, and no, I do not mean get out of trim, just a little air for compensating the tank weight. I have to do this with my Armadillo when diving larger sidemount tanks like lp 120's.
 
You could look at their Hydros wing, which appears to be more traditional yet offers the custom colors which I think are cool.

Had a Hydros 40 for two years, did not have the issues OP is describing, really nice wing.
