Over the years, I have had two transmitters get broken by boat crews using the transmitters as a handle or grabbing the tank valve and also putting a lot of pressure on the transmitter while lifting a BCD into the boat. If you dive in circumstances where that is the SOP, then unless you want to be That Guy to the boat crew, you need to put the transmitter on a hose or be prepared for a surprise on one of your dives. I use the 4" hose from Piranha Dive Gear. When pressurized, that hose is pretty rigid. It does not need to be secured and is really to short to secure to anything anyway, but is enough to get the transmitter out of harm's way. I suspect a 6" would also not be floppy when pressurized, but I have not checked.
