I know a lot of DIR divers use a broken-off steak knife as a cutting device. How do you cut off the tip? I just bought a knife but can't figure out how to break it off... Wire cutters didn't work...

...plus Dremel for smoothing, rounding.

or a metal file for us Neanderthals who lack power tools

You sure that you don't mean DIY divers?

Clamp the tip in a vise and bend the handle back and forth until the blade breaks. Clean it up with a grinding wheel. (nobody does this anymore)

when the cut off ones are about as cheap as the non-cut ones, yeah, I just buy the pre-cut ones

Maybe I got bad information, but wasn't the origin of this idea Bill main's because he wanted a blunt-tipped knife and they didn't make them then?
