During a night diving with one hand holding a torch, we can point our light to another hand to make hand sign to your buddy. And we can also make "ok" or "not ok" simply by waving our light. But how do we make hand sign that needs two hands in a night dive? For exmple, safety stop or 90 bar hand sign.

learn one handed hand signals.

safety stop can be done with the following
"deco"-closed fist with pinky pointing up
"depth"-open hand, palm down
"15ft"- numbers 1, 5-or 5m which would just be 5

90 bar
"point to self"-self explanatory
"pressure"-open hand, palm up
"90 bar"- number 9, 0

OK, let's back up a bit.

Communication. For our purposes there are three types:

Introduction to Simplex, Half Duplex and Full Duplex

Simplex is like a radio station. One talks the other just listens.

Half duplex is when one person talks and the other must listen until the end, comprehend, and then capture "talker" status to respond.

Full duplex is when both can yap at will and at the same time.

You choose your protocol topside and stick to it. GUE is good at light signals. One of my previous dogs could be walked at night off-leash with just their basic flashlight commands. (Attention. -make a light circle, your ass should appear in the middle of it.)

You only need one hand if you want to relay information, but you have to be speaking the same language.

Thanks tbone1004,
So does that mean "What's your air pressure" should be "point to him" and then "open hand, palm up"?

FWIW, I prefer the half duplex variant of exactly what you suggest:

I need to say something: "Question" (bent index finger over fist) for 'may I talk?'

Return signal "OK" for I'm now listening...

with a light you flash "attention" so he looks at you
you give "question", "pressure"
he responds "pressure" "value" "ok"
you acknowledge "ok"
