I'm with Mike F here. I have a bolt snap attached to my housing and keep it clipped off to my left shoulder D ring when not taking shots. It's also really easy to hold both the light head and camera in your right hand if you need change buoyancy or navigate for a moment or two. Hold onto both bolt snaps at the same time.
 
With the benefit of your input this turned out to be a non-issue. It would probably been better to test first and worry later......

I just put the light canister on the RH side and put the light head on my left hand. The crossed cable behind the hose is no problem at all.
