I am looking for a buddy(ies) to dive the wreck of the U-352 this season. I am also looking for advice on how to arrange such a dive (which dive charter/shop, etc.)

Long story short: I’m an avid wreck diver and WW2 history junkie who’s been trying to dive the U-352 for years. Every year, some unforeseen event torpedoes my plans (pun intended). This year, my NC-based friend found out he is moving within the next few weeks and thus won’t be able to do the dive this season.

I live in Philadelphia and will be driving down with all my gear. I really, really want to see the U-boat this year. I shall not be deterred!

So...does anyone else want to dive the U-boat this year? And/or does anyone have any advice about how best to arrange it?

Thanks in advance!

Olympus does the U-352 specialty course and will probably be the most likely outfit to try to head out there because of that. All of the ops will go out there weather pending, etc. but they will be more motivated than others.

The smaller charters like Atlantis IV etc. just have you rent the whole boat so they go wherever you want, again weather pending, but the cattle boats will have more scheduled trips

My daughter and I dove the U-352 12 years ago with Olympus. They were a good outfit and I am sure they still are. At that time, they had the machine gun from the 352 on their dock which was pretty cool. I still have vivid memories of the U352. We also had nice dives on the Indra, the Hutton?, and another wreck. You may want to consider a two day trip in the event conditions are not good the first day.

Visit www.olympusdiving.com for more information.

I'll dive it with you... This is Andy from SCDT. I went down last summer with a buddy and dove with Olympus. They took us to the U352 and tried to put us on it but the current was just too fast. There are no guarantees unless you rent a private charter boat and conditions allow it. In any case, the wrecks are phenomenal. I'm planning on going back down Labor Day weekend, NC is a great trip.

Olympus actually found that sub and they have a lot of artifacts on display that came from there. I was fortunate enough to interview George Purifoy on his discovery of that sub and to the best of my knowledge, that was his last television interview. I may be able to join you depending on what dates you select.

With a little notice, I can go. I plan on diving it within the next year anyways.

From what I understand it’s not uncommon to have bad weather days in NC. I’d plan a few extra days if possible to accommodate this. We drove down from Maine two years ago for 3 days of diving and never got to touch the water. We were supposed to dive with Olympus and even though it didn’t happen I will say they seemed like a very well run operation.

Yep, I've been blown out on a number of occasions. Also, as someone else mentioned, it can be hit or miss even if you get out on the water. I've been on Olympus' boat headed to one wreck and we ended up diving another because the current was screaming where we originally planned to dive. Weather-wise, summer will be your best bet, but if you can allot some extra days your chances will be better.

From a historical perspective, the U-352 is amazing, it's definitely worth doing. From an actual dive perspective though, there are more interesting wrecks in the area.

I had the same experience. Everyone was happy to hear we were going to U-352, but when we arrived at the site they decided the current was too strong, so we moved to a different site.
