Good evening. I recently purchased a TG-6 (love it) and am wanting to go with a minimal setup for traveling. Im looking at the Inon S-2000 or the Backscatter mini flash for strobes (x2 regardless of brand.)
I was shocked when I saw the pricing of the bases and arms. Ive researched backscatter, Bluewater, and Mozaik. Does anyone have any suggestions for base/arm setup that won't break the bank? From what I understand, separate arm setup is better than locline, but locline seems to be better price wise. Looking for any input that can help at this point! I came from a Sealife DC1400 with one strobe that I cradled in my arms, with the locline type arm folding the strobe into the camera.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome to the world of UW photography.

I'm still using Ultralight arms and clamps that I bought back in the mid-90s.

These items are precision made and not mass molded like plastic. The same goes for a decent metal housing that is specifically made for each model of camera that is produced.

I've been using a pair of Backscatter mini-strobes with a TG5 and they work very well for macro.

thanks! I'm torn between the backscatter strobes and the S-2000's from INON,since their a tad more powerful. The backscatter models seem smaller, which will lessen my footprint/travel issues. As in all things, life is full of choices.
I have the housing covered, so I just need to narrow down my base/arm package.

I would avoid locline.
Looks nice in theory but maneuverability is iffy. Plus it doesn't stay in the exact position - always some leeway/play.

I think I saw some offbrand (Chinese) arms, clamps, and bases on amazon.com

The backscatter strobes are great for macro but too weak for wide angle. Go with the inon’s. and get 4 8” ultralight arms. Buy quality once and don’t look back. Have fun!

In regards to lighting - I also have a TG-6 and use backscatter's macro/wide 4300 constant light

Can also pair it with the backscatter snoot for focused lighting.

Its bright enough that I rarely go over ISO 200 or below 1/100 ss.
