I have a Suunto Cobra that I purchased from my authorized LDS last August. This is my backup computer to my D9. On my first dive trip with this computer, I noticed during my safety stops (15-20 feet) that this computer was consistently off by about 2' in depth. This was confirmed against my D9 and my wife's Cobra and D6i (all were held next to each other). All three of the other computers were in agreement on depth. This 2' differential was consistent at depth as well.
I sent this back for warranty repair 4 weeks ago and I followed up with my LDS today who followed up with Aqualung warranty repair. The message I got back was that a difference of 2-4 feet was typical and there were no problems with this computer.
I've checked my manual for the Cobra and the specs for this computer is that it will be within 1% of depth. 2' at 20' is 10% which is well outside of the expected tolerances. Keeping within a 3' range for safety stops, unless you are hanging on a line, is not enjoyable. Even at 80' the difference should be less than 1 foot.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and behavior?
