I'm not sure how much weight I will actually need when I go with a SS plate anyways. I looked at the DUI system and saw there were quite a few people that were upset about a recall that wasn't handled well or something like that. I will look at a rubber belt, it sounds much better. I would rather dive with a belt than a bulky BC. I was unaware of something more comfortable.

Weight yourself properly (see "a balanced rig") and you will only require a small amount of ditchable weight. 2-4 lbs pockets on the waist or lower cam bands are small and can be ditched very easily.

Isn't that thread stickied somewhere? I can't find it, and my search results keep bringing me back to my own thread.

I was wondering if there is a possibility of ditch-able integrated weights? Being new to diving I would like to be able to ditch weight in the case I get myself in a bit of trouble.

Thanks

I'm a newbie too, so I may be wrong, but I'd recommend you also ponder the reasons why you are already thinking of ditching weights. Before you ditch weights at the first "bit" of trouble, you need to learn and exercise your ability to 1) prevent problems, 2) solve problems without ditching weights. Depending on depth, dive duration, gases, etc., ditching weights can be a very dangerous, or deadly, option, which must be used only as a last resort. Someone once told me, "Ditching weights does not save you, it only makes it easier to find your body". That's why the methods of "emergency" ascent are ordered like this:

- Normal ascent with own air
- Ascent with alternate air source (Buddy's octopus)
- CESA - keyword here is "controlled" ascent
- Weight ditching (buoyant ascent)

Dive safely and have fun!

I'm aware. I like the idea of having the weight to ditch for the very last possible emergency. I do not plan to get into emergencies, nor do I crumble under pressure making it difficult for me to function. Ditching the weight at the surface in an emergency though would be nice, and it may not be to my lack of ability, but maybe another divers. I don't believe I should have enough lift with my wing to support both myself/weight and another divers. Being cautious and having the option will make things a little safer for myself. I don't like carrying weight, and if it were for my own abilities I would not carry anything extra if it was not needed.
