Thanks for the link Tim. That version of the I.R.I.S. software installed and runs OK but fails to download data from the computer. I then attempted to apply the patch that Zak originally linked to but the National Instruments installer from that link is giving me computability error messages now.

I give up. I'm going to bed.

Hi Nathan....

...sorry, my english isn´t good, but now, after 36-hours i have "the" solution:

- Go to Windows-Hardware-Manager
- open Silicon Labs CP201X USB to UART-Bridge
- then open "access control"
- change Flow-control to "Hardware"
- the open the "Extendend (enhanced) Managements"
choose COM-Port 2,3 or 4 (Test all these COM´s)
...this was is.

But you need to choose the same COM-Port in your Mares-Iris-Software!
...my COM-Port is the Port number 3 (Win-Vista-64).

....and it works fine!

Greetings from Germany,
Thomas

You could dual boot or run a 32bit OS in a virtual machine. I can talk you through the basics of either if you are interested in one of those possibilities.

If theres a fix for it, running dualboot or vm is just overkill (and waste of space) tho..

I was able to install my I.R.I.S software by following the path that Ronbeau cites.
Disable UAC, etc. Also there is an I.R.I.S. 2.30 Vista specific driver.
I had the same problem on Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

The following is found on the web site pinted to by Zak Ohara in the previous post.

Solution for DRAK and IRIS on Windows Vista
space.gif

SolutionSome users receive an error downloading from Dive Computer on Windows Vista.

This issue is related to a not correct behaviour by the serial port driver.

Both IRIS 2.x and DRAK 1.x releases are affected by this error on Windows Vista.

You have two options to resolve this issue:

1) Disabling the Windows Vista UAC control.
You could be find informations about UAC from here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/aa906021.aspx

You can disable UAC in various manner. We suggest this:

a) Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
b) Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC"
Click on that line.
c) Press the Launch button.
d) A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
e) Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.

Note that you can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

2) Removing the following key in the registry (you have to run regedit.exe application)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/National Instruments

Then download the latest VISA RunTime Driver from the vendor site at the following address:

http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/visa/VISA%20Run-Time%20Engine/4.2/win32/visa420runtime.exe

Install the new driver (full installation) and reboot the computer.

I have tried the above steps and am still unable toget I.R.I.S to load on my Vista Home edition - anyone have any other suggestions - this is so frustrating - Ugg :shakehead:
