As I mentioned in another thread...

So Drew is denying it. That's pretty clearly the only thing he could say, right? He's doing the job he is paid for.

But news are full of 'official spokesperson' denying everything - until it happens.

    So... Time will tell.

The rest of the article about the need for changes and innovation in this industry will remain true, whether the Aqua Lung / PADI marriage happens now, later or never. It's also very likely that more consolidation will happen, one way or another.

Have a good & safe weekend!

The "industry" just needs to change focus and stop being its own worst enemy. Things like what's happening in Thailand are a perfect example. They are sending in Seals to do a caver's job. They haven't been trained to cave dive anymore than they have been trained to do brain surgery. we need a hero like Edd Sorenson in there to make it happen. Then we'll see a lot of people wanting to take up the sport. I'm an opportunist in this regard. The boys need saving and we need a shining knight.

You remember that John Volanthen, Rick Stanton and Robert Harper were the British Cave divers who found the boys after a nine-day round-the-clock search involving teams from all over the world. They've been joined by Jason Mallinson and Chris Jewell also for the UK. Because they're British Cave Rescue, you'll probably not be familiar with their names.

    Quote for Guardian New paper

At 10am local time they sent 18 divers into the cave to bring out the boys – including 13 international divers and five Thai navy Seals. The former governor in charge of the rescue operation called the international divers “all-stars” and the Thai divers “five of our best”

  6. So, in like a single year the current owners feel they have essentially doubled PADI's value ? (from $700 million to $1200 million)
