Jammy reel - things to look for to diagnose issue?

Line can take a little getting used to. If its wound too tight or too loose it can give you issues. Not keeping tension on it while spooling it out can make it tangle, bind, or birdsnest. Sometimes it helps to spool out 40 feet or so on land before a dive and wind it back up to loosen it up a little. Most reel issues I've seen are just simple user error.
 
@dewdropsonrosa is it one of the slide lock models? I know it's a silly question, but have you made sure that the lock is fully disengaged? I think that's the only other thing here that hasn't been mentioned yet, everything else has been pretty well covered.
