My family of 4 just returned from a week in Coz, and dove for 4 of those days With our favorite dive crew. The currents were a bit up and visibility lower ( but still fantastic) than our last visit in March before the pandemic shut everything down. Water was super warm at 86 degrees. I was extremely impressed with the safety precautions in place and that all the islanders are absolutely wearing masks. Resort personnel are masked and shielded. They all were working so hard to make tourists feel safe, and were so happy to have tourists coming to the island.
Now for the really big negative; I was so disappointed in the overwhelming majority of My fellow Americans there just flat refusing to wear masks in public areas. As guests in Mexico, I just don’t get why people won’t respect the rules. Worst of all, at the airport a group of 10 divers were drunk, loud, inappropriate, cussing, maskless, and loudly proclaiming why they won’t wear them. I was appalled and embarrassed at their behavior and it will definitely reflect poorly on all of the rest of us who want to travel and dive safely. I love the people in Coz and just hate that this group of 10 were such blatant “entitled American’s”.

Shocking but not surprising. At this rate it won't be long before we're not welcome anywhere. Glad you had a good trip.

We’ve experienced the first part of your journey and fortunately not the negative side, but oddly enough those that refuse to wear mask were predominantly from Texas. I have no idea as to why, but when I asked those not wearing mask where were they from, the majority, like 90 % said Texas!

we spent each night dinning with local friends at various establishment and we never felt safer....glad you and the family came to splash!

I wonder what it would take to get their dumb asses thrown in jail for 3 days.
It would only need to happen a few times, word would get out, and there would be a full stop to that nonsense.

Ok, well Texas is a big state so please don't "profile" us. I have noticed in the DFW area the compliance to wearing a mask is high. Once you get out of the city you see a much looser "compliance". Not making excuses for these guys but there are many counties in TX that have less than a dozen confirmed cases in the last 6 months. I don't wear a mask for myself, I wear it for others. If a group is comfortable with me not wearing one I take it off. I hope people that don't wear mask are keeping their distance from others though.

I've noticed that big cities tend to have more in common with one another than with the suburban and rural areas nearby. Even coastal states have pockets that are deep red.

Choosing wether or not to wear a mask is a rudimentary intelligence test.

It is a lot more than that. Since wearing the mask doesn’t protect you as much as it protects others - it is more about respect of others and being a decent member of a community.
