Rescuers search for missing fisherman - The Garden Island
WAILUA — Police, firefighters, lifeguards and personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard are searching for a missing Lihue man and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating him.

Police have identified the man as 55-year-old Darall Pascua, who has no permanent address but is known to frequent the Lihue area.

Pascua was reported missing on Saturday, shortly before 9:30 a.m., and was last seen wearing red, green and yellow board shorts and no shirt.

Multiple personnel searched for Pascua throughout the weekend but found no sign of him.

The search was suspended Sunday evening and will resume again this morning, said county spokesperson Kim Tamaoka.

According to a Kauai Police Department preliminary report, Pascua was standing on the reef in waters off of Marine Camp, near Wailua Golf Course, while attempting to retrieve a fishing net about 50 yards from shore. A friend on shore lost sight of him and called 911.

Kapaa firefighters, lifeguards on rescue craft, Kauai Fire Department rescue specialists aboard Air 1, and the on-duty battalion chief responded and initiated an air- and sea-based search.

The U.S. Coast Guard also assisted in the search with its Air Station Barbers Point helicopter and Station Kauai’s 45-foot boat.

The search was suspended Saturday at approximately 5 p.m., with the exception of USCG units, which continued the search through Saturday night.

Search efforts resumed Sunday morning with all involved agencies and assets including the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Joesph Gerzcak. Shoreline searches were also conducted Sunday by KPD.

Police do not suspect foul play in Pascua’s disappearance.
