I have made dive trips to Key Largo for the past couple of years in early to mid April. Last year, with bottom temps in the high 70's I felt cool enough in a shorty that I rented a 3 mil full suit and felt fine.

For various reasons I will be making a trip in mid-March this year, starting the 18th. What water temps am I apt to encounter? I have considered buying a 5 mil suit, and I have also considered buying a 3 mil suit that could fit over my shorty. Maybe I could rent a 3 mil full suit that would fit over my shorty.

Suggestions?

It can vary greatly. I was there once during very cold weather. Inshore water temps dipped to the high 60s for a few days. Very exceptional but point is it can vary. Watch the weather and check the reports about a week out.
