I'm going to switch to a backplate/wing setup, and I always dive with a knife, so I'll need on for the new setup.

Right now I've got a Squeeze knife on gromments on my BC. I figure I could get a sheet of Delrin and drill some holes in it, then 'sandwich' the waist strap between the Delrin and the knife. Or, I could sell the knife and get a new one.

What do you guys (girls) think?

thanks

This is what i use. Fits on the waist strap with no problems.

Here is another choice from fifthd http://fifthd.com/cgi-bin/merchant2...oduct_Code=3013.000.100&Category_Code=01-5DSI

I also always carry a set of EMT shears that can also be mounted on the waist strap or secured in a pocket. If i had to choose between a knife and the shears i would certainly choose the shears but carry both just in case. You never know when you might accidntly drop one or the other.

Thanks for the links. The first one looks interesting.

As for the second knife, couldn't you just get a 2 dollar steak knife, and brak it off to fit a 1 dollar sheath?

I carry one or the other of these in one of these and a pair of EMT shears clipped off in my left tight pocket using a double ended bolt snap.

The red handled knife has a thick blade but lightly scoring it with a file, putting it in the vise on the scored line and then whacking it with a hammer made getting the correct length a *snap*. I ground the pommels off of the handle so it would fit in the sheath better.

With the little black handled paring knife I just ground the tip off of the hooked blade.

Both were very cheap and because the chance of losing and object is directly proportionate to its cost I have had these for quite some time.

They are exceedingly sharp and will cut whatever line they touch... except SS leader. That is where the shears come in handy.

How true - I love the statement.

I have a little z-knife that I put on my dive computer strap. That thing works great for cutting mone line and all manner of rope.

A knife on the right hip can also come in handy if you do the long hose thing and don't have a canister light. I've got a bi ol' UK Blue Tang knife that I use for that purpose when I dive without my canister light.

Why don't you just mount your squeeze lock on your harness? A few quick pokes with a soldering iron will get you nice holes you can mount on. That's how I did mine. It's on 2" webbing that's on the front of my BC.
