Just spent the day diving in the Krakatau marine park. Three different dives all at the same site. First dive was a wall dive on the seaward side of Palua Rakata (Krakatau volcano), the second a classic Indonesian muck dive around a group of rocks in the channel between Krakatau and Anak Krakatau and then final dive was on the coral reefs around Anak Krakatau. In between the second and third dives, we had a picnic lunch on Anak Krakatau, and climbed about half way up. Since this is a very active volcano, the experience was amazing. The volcano was billowing out clouds of steam and gases and you could smell the sulfur even in the water. Takes about 2 hours drive to get to west coast from Jakarta and then an hour and an half boat ride. We left in the evening and stayed in a simple B&B ($14 pp/n), leaving for islands at around 8 am. Trip was organized by Jakarta Ocean Dive (Welcome to Jakarta-OceanDive.Com) which is owned and run by Andy Lioe and costs around $120 including transport from Jakarta, all food and beverages. Places are very limited because of the lack of boats to take people across. Andy runs this trip about twice a month.

Be advised there is a 3 km exclusion zone because of the volcanic activity, but this is Indonesia, so if you want to kill yourself, thats your problem.
