What do you think my odds are on getting a good liveaboard in June if I wait to book after I arrive. I understand that I can save quite alot on the trip if I do.
I do not want to miss out if the trips normally sell out this time of year. Also I will need to book it for three people.

Thanks.

I would say that the biggest issue is how long you have in Cairns - if you can get to Cairns and then shop around with a few days' flexibility, there is very little chance of not getting on a boat. However, if you get there one day and *have* to get on a boat the next day, you might be taking a bit of a risk. My experience is that, with the exception of absolute peak periods, there is always some availability on the boats, although you may not get much of a choice in terms of rooms on the boat.

If you don't care what liveaboard you go on then wait. I tried to book Mike Ball before I left and they said it was full....when we arrived and looked around town, there was room. I'm not sorry I went through Pro-dive before we left and booked the "Diversity" but we could have had a better deal by nearly 30% if I would have waited. I didn't want to get there and dive on a boat that didn't have it's own ensuite either, so for me it worked out great. We arrived in Cairns around the 19th of June and we were there for about two weeks including our 5 night liveaboard, we also went to Hawaii on the way back for 10 days and dove at the Big Island and Maui which was quite dissapointing after having been out to Osprey Reef and Lizard Island area as well as the Ribbons in closer to Port Douglas. Try to go north, you'll not be sorry.
