I catch lobster about as cheaply as it can be caught (own all my own gear, borrow a boat, etc.). But it would still be cheaper for me to buy lobster at the super market. But waaaayyyy less fun"

But it makes you feel like you're defraying some of the cost of diving...
For my 70th birthday the wife said I could do anything I wanted as long as she got to go along. I chose to charter a small dive boat/skipper for two days of lobster diving. Got four. Along with thee days of motel bills those were pretty expensive lobsters but we enjoyed the experience tremendously.
