I regularly dive in Monterey, California where vis ranges from 5'-25' on average. Up until now I've been able to get by with dual L&M Gobe 700 lumen flood video lights for GoPro. Just upgraded to Olympus EM5 mk II. The lights do ok because I've always been doing macro.

Next week I'll be going to Hawaii for some nice, warm diving. Would it be worth it to bring only 2x 700 lumen with me? I imagine some artificial light is better than only ambient light but I figured I'd be shooting anywhere from 25mm to 50mm and no macro. I don't have funds or time to get real strobes/TTL equipment.

At non-macro distances, in daylight, I doubt you'll see the lights doing much. I use a pair of 5200lm lights, and in the Red Sea, I see them starting to take some effect from maybe a couple feet away at most. They'll be useful on night dives though.

Hmm, I figured as much. Thanks for the advice. I really want to squeeze in a couple of night dives but my buddy is almost blind and hasn't done night before. Shame.
