I'm not one of the Doc's, but maybe I can help...a good starting point for understanding M-values is an article written by Erik Baker called Understanding M-values. Pretty clever title, huh? It starts out gentle and then will take you on a guided plunge into the world of decompression theory. It's good stuff and not too complex, but not what I'd call light reading.

If that's not enough, pipe up and I'm sure that this bunch can bury you under a reading list capable of stunning a physics major...

You can find several good deco papers (including the one mentioned above) at http://www.gap-software.com/ in section "Learn About".

The following is the paper published by Erik C. Baker. It is in PDF format, so you should be able to read it.

Hope this helps.

Oops, didn't notice the link from Reefraff....Oh well....
