I'm a Fish!
Scuba Diving in the Philippines has the widest variety of marine species in the world and Malapascua is no exception, it’s famous worldwide for being the only place in the world where you can dive with the very rare Thresher Shark on a regular basis. This graceful shark usually lives in deep water and are very rarely spotted in shallower waters. In Malapascua they come up to around 20-30m first thing in the morning to get rid of parasites on their skin.

Daily early morning Dives to Monad Shoal to see the Thresher Shark are offered at most Dive Shops on the island most leave around 5am. As the cleaning stations are at 30m Nitrox really is a must to maximize your chances of seeing the Sharks. It is also a good spot to encounter Manta Rays!

Over the years, many documentaries have been filmed at Monad Shoal and that’s what has made this place so famous. Encounters with the Thresher Shark are not guaranteed however if you dive in Malapascua for a week you have an excellent chance of coming face to face with this very timid Shark!

Gato Island is another dive site where you can see the White Tip Reef Shark.
The island is a 1 hour boat ride away. Gato has a 30m Tunnel through to the other side of the island, this cave is home to the white tip reef shark and other cave dwellers. Hovering just inside the exit of the cave you can see the beautiful silhouettes of the sharks as they circle and if you’re lucky enough, inches away from your face….
There are many overhangs and swim troughs and small caves where you can see baby sharks sleeping, you may also encounter large puffer fish, jelly fish and nudibranch's. A Night Dive at Gato is also a must.

**Monad Shoal & Gato Island are now officially Shark Sanctuaries, the first in the Philippines**

Apart from the Sharks and Rays, Malapascua has many dive sites only a short boat ride away. Where there’s awesome Macro diving such as the colorful Mandarin fish, Flamboyant Cuttlefish, Ornate Ghost Pipe-fish, Frog-fish, Blue Ringed Octopus, Seahorses and many amazing Nudibranch's.

If you fancy a bit of Wreck Diving there’s the “Dona Marilyn Wreck” a 1 & 1/2 hour boat ride from the island. It is a former 100m long passenger ferry which sank in 1988 during a Typhoon.
Day Trips to Calanggaman Island is not to be missed an uninhabited tropical paradise famous for its white sand and its crystal clear blue waters and spectacular Wall Diving and if you’re lucky enough you might also see a Whale Shark.
Malapascua Island is a great place for Macro Underwater Photography so don’t forget your Camera!!!
