Right, the computer is supposed to go into safety stop mode automatically when you ascend from a dive 10m or deeper and you reach the depth range of the safety stop. However, I have noticed that if you ascend to safety stop depth and your tank pressure is at or below the low reserve setting, the computer will not go into safety stop mode. It just flashes "Low Air".

I have had exactly the same issues. Coincidentally I was also diving in Cozumel at the time, although of course that has nothing to do with it. For some ridiculous reason the Puck omits the safety stop when it decides you have LOW AIR. I called the dive shop/dealer in the US from Cozumel and they told em I must have a defective unit. I the told them my ones son's unit was behaving the same. When I returned to Seattle I was told this was a design feature of the Puck Air and not a defect. I have tried to find a firmware update on the net but so far have been unsuccessful. Customer support is terrible for Mares products and the software is nothing short of pathetic!. I own 3 Puck Airs (for me and my 2 sons) and I'm getting rid of them all. I've had nothing but trouble with Mares products. I also purchased 2 Mares ICON BCDs last year. My sons buckle broke on the 3rd dive. I subsequently bought an ICON HD diver computer which arrived broken from the factory. Mares products are clearly substandard. I still have Mares Carbon and Abyss regs, which seem to be OK. However I'm getting rid of all my Mares products and from here on I'm only buying ScubaPro. I recently purchased a the UWATEC Galileo Luna. It's terrific!

I found a solution to these issues. I bought a Dive Rite Nitek Q and put the Puck Air in Bottom Timer mode.............
