Are they good? Enough to feel like you get help finding the fish you saw. Any advice or knowledge about the books are helpfull
 
I love the New World Publications' guides: fishid.com

I own the Reef Fish ID, Reef Creature ID, and Reef Coral ID eBooks for the Florida/Caribbean/Bahamas and they're all fantastic.

Princeton Field Guides is my go-to for sharks and whales (have specific books for each).
 
I agree the "New World" publications are the bibles. There are often lesser-known publications for specific regions. Besides the ones noted above, I have books for the north Atlantic and NW Pacific regions because I dive in those areas often, and the Great Lakes as well. (Although we managed to pretty much eat/poison/displace most native species).
