Hey Conch friends, I am so excited, and I have to tell you that I just took the basic volunteer training course from Marine Mammal Conservancy (MMC) - Protecting Marine Mammals and Their Habitats Through Research, Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release and Education with my dive club today!!!

We learned how to be first responders if a marine mammal is stranded in our area before the MMC folks get there, and we also learned how to help the the MMC if they have rescued marine mammals that need care in their lagoon at MM102 in Key Largo.

It was a fascinating, interactive course and while I hope that marine mammals are never stranded or beached, in fact that does happen and now I know how to help.

I wonder...if there is enough interest...to get them to do a course for the SoFla ScubaBoard folks? The course was only $5 and included the textbook. Remember, Key Largo is only 90 minutes from Fort Lauderdale.

Check out their website and think about getting involved. Oh and they need money so if you can spare a couple of bucks, please help them that way too.

p.s. after the course, we ate at what used to be the Italian Fisherman for y'all old fart conchs who remember eating there waybackwhen, it is now called The Big Chill and the dive club folks were very happy with it. Well, except for that one person who finds fault with everything, LOL. MM104 bayside just south of the kayak joint and The Crib.
