I'm just about to kick-off my next eco project.

In quick summary, here is the plan:

Produce a high-quality video on the the importance of marine parks
-Why we should declare more marine parks
-Why marine parks should be larger
-Why neighbouring marine parks should be joined up
-Why marine parks need policing

Format
Short, less-than 10 minute, key-messages version with proposed action items
Longer, 24 minute, documentary style version
Combine underwater / abovewater footage with interviews, animated graphs and bullet-point overlays
Target audiences:
Targeted to politicians, including opposition, and government officials
Broadcast to voting public

Delivery
Direct courier delivery of DVD to the offices of politicians and government officials in Southeast Asian countries
Broadcast through regional TV programming
Support from selected conservation organisations for further distribution
Languages: English, Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesian/Malaysian, Thai, Philippine, Papuan, Japanese

Key Messages:
Marine parks make economic sense
Attract tourist dollar
Improve fishing in surrounding seas
Legacy for our children and future generations

Marine parks to include in the video
Thailand Similan
Indonesia: Komodo, Raja Ampat, Bunaken

I'm just working on the script and the background video footage now. I have a potential sponsor lined up.

I need some help with "evidencing" these 4 points:
Why we should declare more marine parks
Why marine parks should be larger
Why neighbouring marine parks should be joined up
Why marine parks need policing

Of course I can write a script on these points and show some video and animation that demonstrates the idea. But, I'd really like some solid evidence.

Do you know of any research that has been done on:
What is the optimal size of marine parks, showing why bigger is better?
How marine parks affect the local economies through tourism?
How larger marine parks have an overall positive balance on marine stocks
(more fish minus lost fishing grounds)?
The impact of proactive or local policing of marine parks?

Do you know of any marine biologists who have done or are doing such research?
Or do you know a research assistant interested in helping get some data that supports the story?
Does anyone know how I can contact Reg Lipson?

Regards
Peter
