Just back from Mauritius.

Stayed at the Westin in Turtle Bay. Hotel was a solid 8. Priced right and staff was incredibly accommodating. We dove with their outfit, easydive mauritus. A good group hit a few racks. Biz was 100+ feet, depths ranged from 60-83. Water temp was in 80s.

We heard that Reunion and Rodrigues islands offered some diversity and bigger fish.

We flew to Rodrigues as our local information told us that though Reunion potentially had sharks and phalegics a result of sheer walls, the coral isn't as vibrant. Also we heard that Rodrigues was like Mauritius 40 years ago. That was the case not a building over 3 stories. Warm and friendly people.

We booked at Cotton Bay and dove with Phillip at Cotton Bay Divers. He is from Normandy and took over the shop 4 years ago. Hi English is solid and as is mos on the island (only 40k people) but speaking some French helps allot. The hotel was great, wifi horrible and only in the lobby and unless you have Orange, no cell service. It was just what we wanted. Hotel was clean, rooms had been re done, AC was perfect cold and quiet. Food good. Nice rustic feel.

The diving was awesome. We dove one day and extended our stay another night. So three days diving inside the reef. Deep technical coral canyons. Current was pulling hard and you would drift a ravine and then tuck right or left into a cave to find an eddy. Hanging on you look up and see huge schools of amberjack, turtles, the spectrum of reef fish, leaf fish And we had a rare, sighting of a 3 inches horned goblin looking guy. They lay ropes under water to pull your self or anchor as you fin and crawl through the canyon. Coral was out of this world. Max depth 93 feet ante bottom temp was 83.

Some of the best diving I have experienced. We will return.
