After hearing of the earthquake & Tsunami in this area I got curious- anyone been diving in the Metawai region? Did ya like it?

Thanks

Mentawai seems more of a surf than a dive spot. Never heard or read reports about diving in the Mentawais.

Indeed, Mentawai is more popular for surfing. Not many discussion in local forum. Usualy surfing and diving does not mix well. But, I found this resort Aloita Resort – Indonesia?s finest Mentawai Islands Resort claim as the true dive resort in Mentawai; though not very impressed with the pictures in their dive gallery.

I am a surfer and diver and the Mentawi has always been on my surfing to do list. It really is the Raja Ampat of surfing! Great great waves, in fact some of the best in the world and, it is very consistant and diverse. The Aloita is a top notch resort, apparently, but you pay for it. And it is primarily a surf resort, the diving is an add on.
So if you are a surfer who dives then not a bad option, if you can afford it!
I have seen a few other underwater pics from a few of the other surf resorts in the area and generally they didn't scream "Amazing Diving"! They may have muttered "Ah take a dip and you may see a thing or two". BUT I'm rambling and as I have not seen it first hand you can ignore my post! ha ha
