Two full days of search and rescue involving more than 60 team members have shown success.
Xisco Gràcia was rescued on 18th April from the sa Piqueta cave system on Mallorca Island.

The Search teams located Xisco late Monday evening 900 meters from the cave entry where he found shelter in a cavern on Saturday evening. The 55yrs old survived within the 20 square meter cavern at approx. 40m depth.

Initial attempts to drill trough 37m of rock from surface to establish water and oxygen supplies using drill rigs failed- rescue divers deployed finally found Gràcia.

The Biologist of UIB Balearen-University is known to be an experienced cave diver. Leading to the accident was a torn caveline leaving him with no orientation.

According to the 'Dario de Mallorca'-newspaper Xiscos O2 supply ran short and he decided to await return of his dive buddies where he was able breating from the cavern. When arriving they found no trace of him.

The Cova de Piquete in Manacor is a >3km long cave system, parts of it yet unexplored. The team was conducting a mapping survey during the accident.

Wow, great story, lucky guy!

I am a bit confused by the first rescue measure attempt, drilling through the rock to provide "oxygen" and water?! I have no idea of how fast the drilling might go, but it's got to be faster to reach him through the cave. 900 meters from the entrance? That's 10-15 minutes, depending on how fast your scooter is. Something doesn't add up. This was not a caved-in situation, as they swam out. And they must have known his location extremely well, in order to try to drill through 40 meters of rock. And thank God drilling didn't work, think about drilling straight into his air bubble, that would have been really really bad...
