My friend was on his yearly vacation at the Divi Resort in Bonaire the past two weeks. On Thursday night, April 28th, he posted on social media that he was going to dive early Friday morning to watch the ocean transition between darkness and dawn where the shallows meet the depths. He was doing a beach dive from the resort.
He did not show up at the airport for his return flight back to the states on Saturday, April 30th. A subsequent search located his glasses and some personal items in his dive locker and a search of his room located all of his personal belongings. Only his dive equipment was missing.
The Dutch Coast Guard conducted searches Sunday through Tuesday and after failing to locate him, suspended the search. It is presumed that he had some sort of malfunction or medical emergency during the dive.
I am requesting anyone currently in Bonaire or traveling in the upcoming weeks to please post any information you may hear.
His family is in touch with the consulate, but news is slow to filter back.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
