It was a nice day today.
Breakwater/San Carlos was about 10-15.
Pipe and M.Fields followed by wall - a little on the slightly warmer side at 54F.
The water was not green so that was nice.

A couple of large classes and a nice number of smaller groups, but it wasn't as busy as I thought it might be on this holiday weekend.

this morning just before 0600.

Hopefully this continues!

Headed to Pt Lobos tomorrow for me and my better half’s first dives in whaler’s cove. Been rummaging through scubaboard to learn as much as I can and hoping there’d be some knowledgeable divers there to verify my research :)

have fun!

go down that ramp SLOWLY. :-D
go up that ramp SLOWLY again!

oh god that ramp!!! im sure someone has twisted an ankle. i wish they could just put out a little diving platform out there for easy entry with a ladder for an exit.. i mean we do pay a fees to access the park… should not be too much of an issue to install next to the ramp ?

The former owner of Aquarius dive shop broke his shoulder falling on the ramp. That is one of the reasons I will not dive Lobos. I don't feel comfortable walking over slime hoping I don't fall and break my camera or tail bone. Casino Point has a nice stair setup that would be great to have at Lobos. Not sure about how feasible it would be. The environmental impact study alone could likely kill the project.

BAUE has been working with the CA state park for a loooong time (and raised tons of money) to improve the ramp - the process is slow and painstaking. In addition, for years, members volunteered to pressure wash the algae from the ramp once a month.

The ramp has certainly gotten worse. There's at least 2 significant holes in it now that require very careful stepping-around.

Yeah, the earth will have been engulfed by the Sun, by the time the state of Kali-fornia, ever improves or approves of a change to Whaler's Cove, based upon decades of complaints -- so, another 5.4 billion years will do the trick . . .

Awesome conditions at Pt Lobos today.

Vis inside Whaler’s Cove seemed to be just shy of 10 feet and opened further to like 30 feet or more at the Sand Channel. No current or surge to speak of.

LOTS of kelp though… the entire Worm Patch area was completely overgrown.

Learned a lesson to take bigger tanks next time… went with vintage steel 72s to try and save some weight but found it really wasn’t enough. We dive the Cali coast with the SolaFx and thought we’d get cold before getting low on air but were interestingly warm with minimum temp of 55F today.

Ramp was a bit slippery but made it safely by holding onto the rocks :)
