More sharks getting a place on the Red List

It's tough being a shark. Either people are scared of you and hunt you down, or want you for a trophy and hunt you down, or think your taste good and hunt you down.

All this shark fishing is having a serious impact:

The effects of indiscriminate shark fishing and finning continue to drive shark populations down, resulting in more sharks being listed by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) as "threatened with extinction."

The IUCN Red List is one you don't want to be on.

We ALL must do our best to educate the public and show how non threatening sharks really are. I recommend everyone join Oceana and other organizations that are working hard to put a stop to terrible fishing practices such as finning and using gill nets. There are many organizations whose main focus is the protection of sharks, The Shark Research Institute is who I have joined and support http://sharks.org/. There is also the Shark Alliance http://www.sharkalliance.org/ who has an entire list of organizations over the world that support shark protection and conservation. Of course we have OCEANA http://www.oceana.org/international-home-nao/ whom I am also a member. As scuba divers, we are the eyes, ears, and voice of our oceans. It is up to us to help protect them and the beautiful creatures in them!
