I live in Cumberland and I have never stayed up there unless camping, so I really can't recommend anything. I have stayed in the guest house at the Purple Fiddle in Thomas, WV, but it is what I'd call "rustic", if you know what I mean. I know there are several divers here that stay around that area more, so they may be able to recommend something. Don't know what you want to spend, but you could also stay somewhere around Deep Creek Lake. There's a lot more dining and entertainment options there than in Cumberland, and it's probably about a 45min drive from there to Mt. Storm.

Thanks, Jim. You're the one who drew my attention to the existence of Mt. Storm a couple month ago.

So you think maybe it's not worth the money for me to buy or order a dive flag, since I don't have one now?

Yeah, I'm not really looking for rustic -- I do know what you mean. Just want a clean, modern, "sterile" chain-hotel room to spend the nights in.

So you drive down there from Cumberland? Hour and a half?

I can usually make it in right around 60mins, but I've been driving those roads for 20 years. I used to spend most of my summers at Mt. Storm, and I got those windy mountain roads down pretty good. Just don't ask my wife about that as she is usually pretty car sick by the time we get there. :D

I was up there last week and we just attached the diver flag to the line. As far as boats...be careful if you plan to free asend. I sent up my saftey sausage because I heard what sounded like a boat that was too close and found a boat about 10-15 feet from the 25 foot plaform to the left heading towards the right platform area.

Thanks for the info. I'd already tried the Best Western -- no vacancy that weekend.

I was thinking the Comfort Inn in Lavale.

There are lines that run between platforms and to the motorcycle. I think there are lines to the dam also, but I have not followed them. I believe they lead off from the motorcycle. I just attached my flag between the platform lines. Its a good center point if you are mainly diving around the 25-30 foot depth.

My son and I will be at Mt. Storm tomorrow (Sat, 4 Sep). Overnighting at a hotel in Cumberland, and driving up in the morning. should be there about 11:00 or noonish.

It'd be great to meet anyone that's there, if you have time. We'll have a red VW Jetta/GLI with MD tags, and we should be using a blue tarp to lay our stuff out.
