I snapped this one at a local shop. Old 72 cu ft tank with the "AMF" logo and a pillar valve. Looks like it was born 12-61.

I questioned why would you have you interest in a Voit SCUBA tank ?
Then I checked your DOB 1970
The tank was produced in 1961-- 9 years before you were born
To you and I suspect others in your are of influenced a true diving antique

At one time- at that time - W F Voit was a major player in the diving industry -- a very close second to US Divers.
They were located in Santa Ana a mile apart - US Divers on Delphi and Voit around the corner on Harbor Blvd.
Originally Voit supplied or produced a major portion of US Divers rubber goods'
In turn US Divers supplied Voit with breathing equipment to be rebranded with Voit logo.

Then Voit became aggressive and developed rt acquired many top quality items:
the famous MR regulators the JBL developed Spear guns etc

They encountered a bump in the road and were acquired by AMF and the end was in sight .

Now you know more that your fuzzy faced instructor or probably the shop owner

Any questions ?

Originally the W J Voit Rubber Co. later the Voit Rubber company was bought out by AMF in 1957 when AMF began to expand it sporting goods line which at the time was mainly bowling equipment. My first tank and regulator I bought new in 1956, both are still in use..
